CAMP COACHES

Phil Shoemaker
Alaska Volleyball Head Coach
During his tenure with the Alaska Nanooks, Shoemaker's teams have both
been successful and established some high standards both on and off the
court. In the spring of 2009, the University of Alaska Fairbanks
women's volleyball team achieved its second consecutive American Volleyball
Coaches Association Team All-Academic Award for posting higher than a
3.3 grade-point average in the fall of 2008. Going into his eleventh season with the Nanook volleyball program, Shoemaker has led Alaska to 1115 wins and posted three
of the top four (season) winning percentages in program history.
Coach Shoemaker has 30 years of camp and clinic experience throughout the nation. In addition to coaching, Shoemaker has served as the GNAC representative to
the AVCA DII National Head Coaches Committee and is a member of the USA
Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program Cadre.

Amy Phelps
Director of Alaska Volleyball Camps
Alaska Volleyball Associate Head CoachWith twelve years of clinical experience under her belt, Amy Phelps is starting her fifth year as the Director of Alaska Volleyball Camps. A former National Intercollegiate Association of Athletics
All-American who has coached at both her alma mater and in the NCAA
Division II ranks was promoted to associate head coach, following
her third season as the assistant volleyball coach at the
University of Alaska Fairbanks. Phelps specializes in recruiting and developing the Nanook offense. Phelps played and coached at Graceland University and was a
graduate assistant coach for two years at Northwest Missouri State. A setter at Graceland, Phelps earned first team All-Conference
and first team All-Region honors and was named an honorable mention
NAIA All-American, as well as an NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete. Her
team won both the regular season and post-season titles in the Heart of
American Conference, and she served as a co-captain.
Court Coaches
Current and former Alaska volleyball players, along with local coaches from Alaska will serve as court coaches. All court coaches have extensive playing backgrounds and/or coaching experience. Their main goals are to teach the technical aspects of the sport by demonstrating what the skills look like. Campers will have a front row seat to demonstrations held throughout each camp and also see a scrimmage between Alaska Nanooks players. What brings our coaches the most joy is creating a fun and challenging atmosphere for each camper.
